- one of the world's greatest train journeys.
The transcontinental train is a three-day journey from the Pacific Ocean in the
East to the Indian Ocean in the West.
This epic 4,352km
trip from Sydney to Perth provides a spectacular array of backdrops including the
spectacular Blue Mountains, the Great Dividing Range, the salt lakes and sand dues
of South Australia, the barren Nullarbor Plains and the Darling Ranges.
Whistle stop tours can be taken in both Katherine and Alice Springs. Tours range
from Camel rides to a Desert Park tour in Alice Springs, or a leisurely gorge cruise
to a helicopter flight in Katherine. Tours are reasonable in cost and must be
purchased on board the train.
The Indian Pacific train offers two accommodation options -
Gold Service and Red Service.
Red Service is a quality travel option
for budget travellers. Red Service offers Sleeper Cabins and Daynighter Seats.
Gold
Service is the ideal option for a rail adventure with style and romance.
Gold Service guests can choose from twin or single sleeper cabins.Twin cabins have
a comfortable three-seater lounge for relaxing during the day and converts to an
upper and lower sleeping berth at night. Single cabins have similar features
to those in twin cabins. The difference relates to showers and toilets which
are located at the end of each carriage.
The Indian Pacific departs Sydney twice a week on Saturday and Wednesdays and Perth
on Wednesday and Sundays.
