What is the Seniors Card program?

The program is an initiative of the NSW Government introduced in 1992 to recognise the contribution older citizens make to our community. Through a combination of business discounts and government concessions, it aims to help seniors live healthier, happier, more active and affordable lives in retirement.


Who is eligible for the program?

Every citizen who is 60+ years of age and a permanent resident of NSW is eligible for one of the two cards offered by the program: the Seniors Card or the Senior Savers Card.


What are the Seniors Card and the Senior Savers Card?

The Seniors Card is the original benefits card provided by the program. It offers discounts and deals at over 7,400 businesses, plus access to a Gold Opal Card and transport concessions that were created to help people who are fully or largely retired get around more affordably and stay active and connected.

The Senior Savers Card was introduced in July 2019 to expand benefits to the growing number of seniors who are still working after age 60, and therefore not yet eligible for the Seniors Card. It offers them some immediate relief from the cost of everyday living with access to all the same 7,400+ business discounts as the Seniors Card.

Then when Senior Savers Card holders start working less or retire completely, they can convert to a Seniors Card with the full government transport concessions for retirees

SENIORS CARD members also get:
  • The Gold Opal Card - with NSW transport concessions and transport concession Australia Wide - check the Seniors Card website in the state you’re visiting for details.

Eligibility Criteria

Seniors Card eligibility:

  • Permanent residents of NSW*
  • 60 years of age or older
  • Working NO MORE THAN 20 HOURS paid hours per week

Senior Savers Card eligibility:

  • Permanent residents of NSW*
  • 60 years of age or older
  • Working MORE THAN 20 HOURS paid hours per week

*A permanent resident is any Australian citizen or resident with a permanent visa who lives in NSW on a permanent basis. Temporary visa holders are not eligible.


If I have a Seniors Card, am I also eligible for the Senior Savers Card?

No. You’re already getting all the benefits of the program with your Seniors Card. The Senior Savers Card is specifically for people who aren’t yet eligible for the Seniors Card because they are working more than 20 hours a week.

How long does it take to get my Seniors Card or Senior Savers Card?

Please allow 21 days from the date your application is received for delivery of your card.

What kind of business discounts and deals can I get with my card?

A huge range of business types offer you discounts and deals through the program. Shops and online merchants. Cafes and restaurants. Entertainment venues and events. Holiday and travel providers. Professional services. Tradies and household and automotive services and heaps more.  Over 7,400 businesses across the state participate in the program, providing over 9,000 offers!

Can I use my NSW Seniors Card interstate?

Yes. Members are entitled to public transport concession fares in other states and territories. (See the Seniors Card website for the state/territory you’re visiting for details on how to access concessions there.)

Many businesses also provide discounts to interstate members on request. So be sure to ask!

What do I need to do if I change my name or address?

To change your registered name on your card, call us on 13 77 88.

(You’ll need your current Seniors Card and a valid green Medicare Card when you call.)

What if my card is lost, stolen or destroyed?

What businesses are eligible to participate and offer deals to members?

Any business or service with a good reputation and with an Australian Business Number (ABN) can apply to participate in the program.

Participation in the program is free. All you need to do is agree to offer an approved discount or benefit to NSW Seniors Card members.
