There's no better way to enjoy a trip between Melbourne and Adelaide than on the historic Overland. The Overland first pioneered inter capital rail travel in 1887. Its name is inspired by the historic 'Overlanders' who travelled on horseback to and from the cities of Melbourne and Adelaide.
More than a century later The Overland continues to provide a comfortable and convenient rail service between these two capital cities. Guests can sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery from the heart of Australia's wine producing region, and through to the cosmopolitan city of Melbourne.
The Overland offers daylight services between Adelaide and Melbourne and vice versa three times a week. This means you can spend your journey taking in the spectacular views and arrive in the heart of your destination just in time for dinner feeling rested, refreshed and ready to begin the next part of your holiday.
Red Service seats are comfortable forward facing or twisting chairs with ample leg room. Guests can move freely between the seating carriage and the Café carriage, where a variety of meals, snacks and drinks can be purchased. They have the option of enjoying the scenery from the Café whilst eating their meals, or taking their food back to their seat, where a convenient armrest tray acts as a table.
Red Premium Service guests travel in comfortable forward facing or twisting seats with an abundance of leg room. The carriage is well spaced out with only 38 seats to a carriage (compared to 62 in Red Service).
A trolley service travels up and down the carriage at regular intervals, offering snacks and drinks for purchase. Convenient tray tables lift out of the armrests for eating, or for easy view of a laptop, book or portable DVD player. Alternatively, guests can make use of the fully licensed Café carriage, where a wide variety of meals, snacks and drinks for purchase.
The Overland departs Adelaide three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, and Melbourne on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays.
