Boarding The Ghan in Adelaide or Darwin, you'll experience one of the most fascinating great train journeys of the world. Stopovers in Adelaide are available for guests travelling to or from Sydney on the Indian Pacific and Melbourne on The Overland.
The Ghan offers two accommodation options - Gold Service and Red Service.
Gold Service is the ideal option for a rail adventure with style and romance. Gold Service guests can choose from twin or single sleeper cabins. Twin cabins have a comfortable three-seater lounge for relaxing during the day and converts to an upper and lower sleeping berth at night. Single cabins have similar features to those in twin cabins. The difference relates to showers and toilets which are located at the end of each carriage.
Red Service is a quality travel option for budget travellers. Red Service offers Sleeper Cabins and Daynighter Seats.
Whistle stop tours can be taken in a range of stops along the way. Discover the historic outback town of Broken Hill, charming city of Adelaide and the fascinating Super Pit located in the mining town of Kalgoorlie. Tours are reasonable in cost and must be purchased on board the train.
Hotel to station transfers and visa versa, are available from most central Darwin hotels.
The Ghan departs Adelaide twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays, and Darwin on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
