Now in their 50s and 60s, nearly 5.6 million Australians will start leaving the paid workforce during the next 20 years. How is the baby boomer generation's impending workforce exodus likely to alter the Australian landscape?
'Too expensive, too hard, what for...'. Many senior Australians either cannot afford, are wary about, or remain blissfully ignorant of the benefits of joining the digital age. In this edition we meet three not-for-profit organisations that are turning the tide by bringing low-cost computers, internet, training and support for seniors and pensioners.
Are you worried about the effect that global financial conditions have had on your super? You need to read FIDO's financial survival guide, and Russell Muldoon's tips to recognising doomed stocks. And don't forget our regular articles: gardening, computer tips, pets, competitions (win cinema tickets or a mobile phone), new savings, special offers, business partners and more in your September e-News. |

My Generation: Are Australian baby boomers the retiring kind?
Now in their 50s and 60s, baby boomers (comprising nearly 5.6 million Australians) will start leaving the paid workforce during the next 20 years. The largest and most influential age group in Australia looks set to have as much influence on Australia’s approach to, and understanding of, ageing as they have had on music and politics in previous decades. read more
Older & Wiser: You're never too old to exercise
"I will exercise until I can’t move anymore" states Donal Carr, Personal Training Manager for Fitness First Australia. Not everyone is able to match Donal at bench presses or beach running, and as Donal adds, overdoing or abusing exercise “can be more damaging than the benefits”. So it’s important to understand what we can achieve with exercise as well as our individual limitations for health and safety. read more
Seniors, computers and the internet
Do you know that only 21% of people over the age of 65 have access to the internet¹? Many seniors don't have a computer or internet connection because they believe that it is a luxury that they can’t afford, aren't aware of the benefits, or perhaps don’t think that they are up to the challenge. read more. |

Prostate Awareness Month |
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australia with 20,000 men diagnosed and close to 3,300 deaths each year.
The Prostate Cancer Fioundation of Australia is asking Australia to get involved, help create awareness and raise the much needed funds to help in the fight against prostate cancer. By hosting a barbecue and asking guests to make a donation, Australians can make a significant impact in the fight against this disease.
