Forget the old stereotypes - 96% of Australians aged 50-plus own a mobile phone and two-thirds say they want to keep up with the
latest technology and devices. But inadequate design of mobile
phones and insufficient training means that seniors are missing
out on many features like Internet and email.
A survey of 2,712
Australians aged 50-plus, conducted by the National Seniors Assocation, has
found that seniors are now more connected than ever, with 90%
of those aged 70 years and over owning a mobile. But many
people said that new technology was always designed with young
people in mind. A common complaint was that the buttons on
mobiles were too small and half of people admitted they did not
know what some of the buttons on their mobile were for.
In response a range of phones have entered the market that are designed to meet the
needs of older Australians. One popular model that we featured earlier this year is the Oricom Ezy 100 Big Button ezy100 GSM mobile phone. Don't forget to present your Seniors Card when purchasing from Oricom International, for your 10% discount.
Another company, OHMI Telecommunications, has a mobile phone plan especially for Seniors. Called the Seniors Mobile Plan 20 it extends a 20% discount to Seniors Card holders.
