Have you or someone you know had a fall recently or have a fear of falling?
As we grow older we lose muscle strength and balance and this can lead to a fall. However, the good news is that research has shown that being physically active can reduce the risk of falls for older people.
The more active we are, the better the chance of keeping our muscles strong, our joints mobile and maintaining our balance. Furthermore, regular exercise can help you remain independent and improve your overall health and wellbeing.
The Active and Healthy website is an online directory of physical activity programs for older people in your local area. You can use the website to find the right exercise program for you. Many of the programs are at low cost to seniors and some are even free! The website also has lots of useful information and tools for you to use to reduce your risk of falls. Such as a guide to exercises you can start doing at home by yourself to build your strength and balance.
