Grandparent of the Year Awards

2015 NSW Grandparent of the Year Award Winners

The formal celebration of this year's Grandparents Day was held on Sunday 25 October at the Norton Street Festa in Leichhardt. Minister Ajaka, together with the member for Drummoyne, John Sidoti, announced and presented the Grandparent of the Year awards at a special ceremony at the festa.

The winners of this year's Awards are Marjorie and Graham Elphick. These winners have a long history of volunteer work with their local school, including running the breakfast club for a number of years. They volunteer in a number of other capacities, and they are an excellent example of the way that grandparents continue to contribute and add value to their local communities.

Minister Ajaka also presented recognition certificates to a number of other outstanding grandparents to recognise their contributions as a grandparent carer, a volunteer mentor, and individuals, such as Carol Underwood, Violet Lord and Ian Gilfeather.

The working commitment of all the award winners demonstrates the way that older people continue to contribute to the lives and wellbeing of others as well as the values, skills and experience that they bring.
