Internet Connection Drops

Dear NetGuide,
I have recently changed ISP and am experiencing up to 20 Internet dropouts daily. I have informed them of this problem. What causes Internet dropouts?

There can be many causes, including:

  • Unstable phone line (your phone company needs to fix this)
  • Connection server is unstable (your ISP can give you a new number to connect to)
  • Connection settings incorrect (your ISP can give you optimal settings to make sure you modem is stable during the connection).

The worst one would be someone else having access to your username and password for connecting to the Internet. As Internet accounts are not designed to allow multiple connections from more than one computer at the same time, only one of the connections will be allowed and the rest have to be dropped. To fix this, have your ISP change your password and make sure you keep your new password safe.
